A Walk for Sunshine

I’m about 2/3 of the way through this book and I am thoroughly enjoying it! I’ve particularly enjoyed the chapters “I Believe in You” and “Your Beer Will Be Okay”. Jeff Alt describes his adventure hiking the Appalachian Trail. I’ve been reading books of this sort to build my excitement even higher for our upcoming vacation to the Smoky Mountains in July.

Jackson v. Dickinson Duel

206 years ago today, Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson in a duel. Some genealogists in my family believe that we are distantly related to Andrew Jackson. Here is an interesting read about it: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdcaroli/Duel.htm

Today's Bible Reading

Today I read the Daily Bible Reading from http://crivoice.com. They follow the Scriptures of the Book of Common Prayer. Today’s reading in Ezekiel was particularly sobering: Ezekiel 34:1-16. Strong words for Israel’s shepherds; which are certainly words that shepherds (pastors and church leaders) today should live by:

Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock? 3 You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock. 4 You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally. 5 So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals. 6 My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them.

My prayer is that I can be the Shepherd that God’s has called me to be; and I WILL be, but only as I rely upon His power and guidance for my ministry.
